A couple of questions:
Does this happen directly after coming out of sleep mode (that is is
the first internet connection you make or do you use your brrowser(s)
etc. first).
Is your Mac connecting to the internet by way of a wireless connection
or are you using the ethernet connection to a router?

I have an unusual problem with the software update feature. I have a

message “An error occurred which checking for updates, a network

connect to the internet, then try again.” If I then run the software
again, it will check and update without incident. Any thoughts?

Someday, I will come up with a clever signature line. I am not sure if
I will use it or not, but I will come up with one.
